In an exclusive interview with Life & Style, Melissa Rivers acknowledges that there were both successful and unsuccessful fashion choices on the red carpet at the 2024 Academy Awards.
During the ceremony on Sunday, March 10, Melissa, 56, expressed her dislike for Ariana Grande’s pink Giambattista Valli Haute Couture gown, stating that it was very extravagant.
“The colour is excessively pink and it clashes with the coat.” Excessive. Excessive. Excessive. “Had she chosen one, I believe it would have been a resounding success,” Melissa remarks, followed by offering some critical feedback to Ariana, who is 30 years old. However, the mere fact that it was entirely coloured in bubblegum pink… Consider a scenario where the dress was black and the coat was pink, or alternatively, the coat was black and the dress was pink. I have a strong appreciation for a well-designed coat that makes a dramatic debut, but in this case, it was excessive.
Although Melissa is not a fan of the appearance of the singer known for the song “7 Rings”, she expresses her admiration for Billie Eilish’s ensemble consisting of a Chanel knee-length skirt in black-and-white plaid, a white collared shirt, and a well-fitted blazer.
“It was very characteristic of her.” “Billie, 22, appeared at ease,” remarks the individual from New York City. “She appears uneasy when wearing a gown or any large garment.” In addition, she is a musician. She has the ability to successfully accomplish that. Melissa states, “I would have felt extremely uneasy witnessing her in a grandiose gown.”
According to her, Billie’s brother, Finneas O’Connell, was exceptionally impressive and conventional in a bow tie and blazer. She suggests that the other men at the awards presentation should learn from the musician’s style.
Following the decision of performers such as Ryan Gosling and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to forgo wearing ties, Melissa asserts that the awards show was an inappropriate event to omit this adornment. “If I witness another instance of a male individual not adorning a necktie this evening, I shall be compelled to undertake a highly theatrical action,” she declares. “It is the Oscars, please wear a tie.” You all lack the qualities that make you cool. Melissa advises the men to abandon their attempts to appear excessively trendy and instead approach the Oscars with the same level of formality and respect as if they were visiting their affluent, elderly grandparents who have not yet included them in their will. She recommends that the males conceal their tattoos and wear a tie.
Having seen Bradley Cooper’s impeccable attire at the awards presentation, she proceeded to praise America Ferrera, Emma Stone, and Anya Taylor-Joy as the women who stood out admirably. Nevertheless, Melissa highlights that the 2024 awards event was commonly referred to as “the night of the necklace.”
According to her, Emily Blunt, who adorned herself in Tiffany & Co. jewellery, had the most exceptional necklace of the event. “The Oppenheimer actress, 41, is wearing a highly architectural dress that is distinctively separated from her body,” Melissa comments. “However, I was unable to move beyond the necklace.”
“I found Emma Stone’s accessories to be stunning, and Florence Pugh’s Bulgari snake-themed piece was particularly captivating,” she comments on the red carpet accessories. “Emily Blunt emerged as the victor in the necklace competition, with Emma coming in a close second.” There were numerous exquisite necklaces.
